Staying with you when you head south
Many northwest Ohio retirees spend winters in Florida, and some eventually move there for good. Kris Kryder holds a Florida insurance license, so she can keep helping you after you go. One client who moved to Florida has shared that Kris kept helping him after the move, and that kind of continuity is exactly the point. You keep the same trusted agent.
You do not have to start over with a stranger. Kris already knows your doctors, your prescriptions and your history. She can compare Florida plans by phone or video and, when you are back in Ohio for the summer, you can still stop by the Perrysburg office. Nothing needs to be rushed.
Medigap vs Medicare Advantage when you split your year
If you live in Ohio and spend months in Florida, your coverage choice matters. Original Medicare with a Medicare Supplement lets you see any provider nationwide that accepts Medicare. That flexibility often suits people who get routine care in both states. A separate Part D plan adds drug coverage. Plan G and Plan N are the most common Medigap choices for people new to Medicare.
A Medicare Advantage plan is built around a local network in your home service area. Emergency and urgent care are covered anywhere in the U.S., but routine visits in Florida may not be covered, or may cost more, depending on the plan. Some PPO plans offer out-of-network coverage. Check before you travel.
| Question | Original Medicare + Medigap | Medicare Advantage |
|---|---|---|
| Routine care in another state? | Any provider that accepts Medicare | Depends on the plan’s network rules |
| Emergency care while traveling? | Covered by Medicare rules | Covered nationwide |
| Drug coverage | Separate Part D plan | Usually included |
| Monthly premium | Medigap premium plus a Part D premium | Varies by plan |
Moving to Florida: your Special Enrollment Period
If you move permanently to Florida, moving out of your plan’s service area generally gives you a Special Enrollment Period. Medicare Advantage and Part D plans are tied to where you live, so you will usually need a new plan. Tell Kris your move date so she can help you time the change.
A Medicare Supplement may stay with you after a move, though premiums can change based on your new address. If you want to switch Medigap plans later, you may have to answer health questions. Kris can explain your choices before you pack the moving truck. Use the Rx drug lookup to check your prescriptions in advance.
- Update your address with Social Security when you move.
- Find Florida doctors and pharmacies before switching plans.
- Ask Kris to review your coverage before and after the move.
Florida Marketplace and life insurance
Florida uses HealthCare.gov. Open Enrollment for 2027 runs November 1, 2026 through January 15, 2027, and you must enroll by December 15 for January 1 coverage. Moving to a new state may qualify you for a Special Enrollment Period outside that window. Kris can compare Marketplace plans. She is not a tax adviser.
Kris also helps Florida clients with term life, whole life, final expense and fixed annuities. If you are thinking about long-term care, remember that Medicare does not cover long-term custodial care. Planning ahead can help protect your savings and your family. Kris can explain how each option fits your goals.
Employee benefits for Florida employers
If you own a small business in Florida, Kris can help you compare group health, dental, vision, life and disability coverage. She explains each option in plain language for you and your employees and helps you fit benefits into your budget. Even a small team may have options. She can review plans at renewal.
Employees nearing 65 can get help understanding how group coverage works with Medicare. With 20 or more employees, the employer plan is usually primary, and Part B can often be delayed without a penalty. Learn more on the employee benefits page. Leaving that coverage starts an eight-month Special Enrollment Period for Part B.
How Kris works with clients in Florida
Florida clients meet Kris by phone or video. She can share her screen, compare plans side by side and walk you through enrollment. If you are in Ohio for part of the year, you can also visit the Perrysburg office, open Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Consultations are no-cost and no-obligation. The Medicare Annual Enrollment Period runs October 15 to December 7, 2026, so plan a review before you head south for the winter. Request a quote or call (419) 277-8097. That way any changes can be in place by January 1, 2027, wherever you spend the winter.
