Sylvania sits close to the Michigan line

Sylvania borders Michigan, and many families here have parents, children or second homes just across the state line in Bedford Township or Lambertville. Kris is licensed in both Ohio and Michigan. That means she can help you and a family member in Michigan, even though your plan options are different in each state.

Coverage is based on where you live. Medicare Advantage and Part D plans are sold by service area, and Marketplace plans are sold by state. If you move between Ohio and Michigan, it can open a Special Enrollment Period. Kris can explain your choices on either side of the border.

Medicare networks around Sylvania

ProMedica Flower Hospital is right in Sylvania, and Mercy Health – St. Anne Hospital and ProMedica Toledo Hospital are nearby. Some Sylvania residents also see doctors at Mercy Health – St. Vincent Medical Center. With providers spread across systems, check whether your doctors are in network for any plan you are considering. Networks can also change from year to year.

A Medicare Advantage HMO may work well if all your doctors are in its network. A PPO may offer some out-of-network coverage. Original Medicare with a Medicare Supplement lets you see any provider that accepts Medicare. Kris can walk through all three with your doctor list in hand. Networks can change, so recheck each fall.

Marketplace coverage if you’re not yet 65

If you are under 65 and buying your own coverage, Ohio uses HealthCare.gov. Enroll by December 15, 2026 for coverage that starts January 1, 2027. Open Enrollment ends January 15, 2027, with a February 1 start for later signups. If you lose job-based coverage or move during the year, you may qualify for a Special Enrollment Period instead of waiting.

Since the enhanced tax credits expired after 2025, a plan that fit your budget this year may cost more next year. Kris can compare Marketplace plans, look at Silver plans with cost-sharing reductions if you qualify, and check whether ProMedica or Mercy Health doctors are included. She is not a tax adviser.

Life insurance, annuities and long-term care

Sylvania residents often think about legacy and protecting a spouse. Term life can cover a mortgage or income for a set number of years. Whole life and universal life last longer and offer cash value. Final expense insurance can handle funeral costs with a smaller, simpler policy. Kris can explain each option without pressure.

Kris also discusses fixed and fixed-indexed annuities and long-term care insurance. Medicare does not cover long-term custodial care, so it helps to plan ahead. Ohio participates in the Long-Term Care Partnership Program, which Kris can explain in a meeting. She can compare traditional long-term care insurance, hybrid life and long-term care policies, and short-term care coverage.

Employee benefits for Sylvania businesses

Sylvania has many small businesses, medical practices and professional offices. Kris helps owners compare group health, dental, vision, life and disability coverage. She can help you find a plan that fits your team and budget and explain the choices to employees in plain terms. Even a small team may have more options than you expect.

For employees nearing 65, Kris can explain how your group coverage works with Medicare and when to enroll. Visit employee benefits to learn more about what she offers local employers. With 20 or more employees, the group plan is usually primary, and Part B can often be delayed without penalty. That guidance can help your team avoid costly mistakes.

How Kris works with clients in Sylvania

Every consultation is no-cost and no-obligation. After you enroll, Kris stays in touch and reviews your coverage before each enrollment season. Request a quote or call (419) 277-8097. Is ProMedica Flower Hospital in network for my Medicare plan?

It depends on the plan you choose. Medicare Advantage networks vary and can change each year. Kris can check whether ProMedica Flower Hospital and each of your doctors are in network before you enroll. My parent lives in Michigan. Can Kris help them too?

Yes. Kris is licensed in Michigan as well as Ohio, Indiana and Florida. She can help your parent compare Michigan plans by phone or video. Plan options differ by state and county, so the choices may not match yours. See the Michigan page for more.

What happens to my Medicare plan if I move from Sylvania to Michigan?

Moving out of your plan’s service area generally gives you a Special Enrollment Period to choose a new plan. Medicare Advantage and Part D plans are tied to where you live. A Medicare Supplement may move with you, though rates can change. Kris can help you compare options in your new area.

When is the 2027 Medicare Annual Enrollment Period?

It runs October 15 through December 7, 2026, and new coverage begins January 1, 2027. During this time you can switch between Original Medicare and Medicare Advantage, change Medicare Advantage plans, or change Part D drug plans. Kris recommends reviewing your plan every fall, since costs and networks can change.

How much is the Part D out-of-pocket cap for 2027?

For 2027, the Part D out-of-pocket cap is $2,400, up from $2,100 in 2026. The maximum Part D deductible rises to $700. Your actual costs depend on the plan and your medications. Kris can compare plans using your drug list, or you can start with the Rx drug lookup.

Can Kris help me plan for long-term care?

Yes. Medicare does not cover long-term custodial care, so many people look at other options. Kris discusses traditional long-term care insurance, hybrid life and long-term care policies, and short-term care coverage.
