An agent licensed on both sides of the state line
Northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan are closely tied. Families live in Monroe County and work in Toledo, or retire to Michigan to be near grandchildren. Kris Kryder holds a Michigan insurance license, so she can help you with Michigan plans, not only Ohio ones. Plan options depend on where you live.
If you live in or near Monroe County, see the Monroe, Michigan page for local details. If you live elsewhere in Michigan, from Ann Arbor to Grand Rapids, Kris can help by phone or video. She looks up the plans available at your address, since Michigan options vary by county.
Medicare for Michigan residents
Like everywhere in the country, Michigan residents can choose Original Medicare, usually with a Medicare Supplement and a Part D plan, or a Medicare Advantage plan. Plan availability, networks and costs vary from county to county, so a plan your neighbor in another county has may not be offered at your address. Kris looks up plans at your address.
The Annual Enrollment Period for 2027 coverage runs October 15 to December 7, 2026. For 2027, the Part D maximum deductible is $700 and the out-of-pocket cap is $2,400. Kris can check your prescriptions against each plan, or you can start with the Rx drug lookup tool. Plans can change drug lists yearly.
- Check whether your doctors are in network, especially if you see doctors in Ohio as well as Michigan.
- Compare total yearly costs, not just the monthly premium.
- Ask about dental, vision and hearing coverage, which varies by plan.
Michigan Marketplace health insurance
Michigan uses HealthCare.gov. Open Enrollment for 2027 runs November 1, 2026 through January 15, 2027. Enroll by December 15 to start coverage January 1; later enrollments start February 1. If you lose job-based coverage or move to Michigan, you may qualify for a Special Enrollment Period outside these dates. Kris can help you understand your options and avoid a gap in coverage.
The enhanced premium tax credits expired at the end of 2025, and many insurers proposed higher 2027 premiums. Credits are generally available for household incomes between about 100% and 400% of the federal poverty level. Kris can compare Marketplace plans and review your renewal. She is not a tax adviser.
Life insurance and retirement protection
Kris helps Michigan clients with term life, whole life, universal life and final expense coverage. Term life protects your family for a set number of years. Whole life lasts for life and builds guaranteed cash value. Final expense policies are smaller and commonly range from $5,000 to $25,000. Each fits different goals.
She also discusses fixed and fixed-indexed annuities and long-term care options. Medicare does not cover long-term custodial care, so planning ahead can help protect your savings. Learn more on the life insurance page. Fixed annuities offer principal protection, and guarantees are backed by the issuing insurer’s claims-paying ability. Surrender periods apply, so Kris explains the details.
Employee benefits for Michigan employers
Small employers in Michigan often want to offer benefits without a large HR department. Kris works with employers on group health, dental, vision, life and disability coverage and helps explain each option to employees in plain language. Even a small team may have more choices than you expect. Kris can review plans at renewal.
She can also help employees nearing 65 understand how group coverage and Medicare fit together. Leaving employer coverage starts an eight-month Special Enrollment Period for Part B. See the employee benefits page for more. With 20 or more employees, the employer plan is usually primary, and Part B can often be delayed without penalty.
How Kris works with clients in Michigan
For most of Michigan, phone or video meetings are the simplest option. Kris can share her screen to compare plans with you, look up your doctors and check your prescriptions. If you live in southeast Michigan, you are welcome to visit the Perrysburg office, open weekdays from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Consultations are no-cost and no-obligation. After you enroll, Kris remains your contact for questions and annual reviews. Request a quote or call (419) 277-8097. She can help with billing questions, claims and confusing plan letters during the year, and if you ever move between Michigan and Ohio, she can help in both states.
