A Michigan-licensed agent just across the state line

Monroe sits between Toledo and Detroit, and many Monroe County families live their lives on both sides of the Ohio line. They work in Toledo, shop in Michigan and see doctors in both states. Kris Kryder holds a Michigan insurance license, so she can help you with plans sold in Michigan, not just Ohio. That matters.

Your plan options are based on where you live. A Monroe address means you choose from Michigan plans, which may be different from what your Ohio friends or relatives see. Kris looks up the plans available at your address, so you compare only the options you can actually join. It saves time and confusion.

Medicare in Monroe: local care and Toledo specialists

ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital serves Monroe and the surrounding area. Many Monroe County residents also see specialists in Toledo at ProMedica Toledo Hospital or Mercy Health – St. Vincent Medical Center. When your doctors are in two states, the network question becomes even more important. Networks can also change each year.

Before choosing a Medicare Advantage plan, check whether your doctors are in network, including any doctors in Ohio. An HMO may limit you to a local network. A PPO may offer out-of-network coverage at a higher cost. Original Medicare with a Medicare Supplement lets you use any provider that accepts Medicare, in either state.

Michigan Marketplace coverage for 2027

Michigan uses HealthCare.gov for individual and family health plans. Open Enrollment for 2027 runs November 1, 2026 through January 15, 2027. Enroll by December 15 for coverage that starts January 1, or by January 15 for a February 1 start. Moving or losing job-based coverage may let you enroll outside these dates.

The enhanced premium tax credits expired at the end of 2025, so your 2027 costs may be higher. Tax credits are generally available for household incomes between about 100% and 400% of the federal poverty level. Kris can compare Marketplace plans and check whether Ohio providers are in network. She is not a tax adviser.

Life insurance for Monroe County families

Life insurance can protect your family from losing your income or being left with funeral bills. Term life covers a set period, such as 10, 20 or 30 years, with level premiums. Whole life covers you for life and builds guaranteed cash value. Kris can explain which may fit your needs.

Many older adults choose final expense insurance, a small whole-life policy commonly between $5,000 and $25,000. These policies are typically simplified issue. Kris can compare options from several companies licensed in Michigan. Simplified issue usually means answering health questions instead of taking a medical exam. She can help you choose a face amount that fits your budget.

Employee benefits for Monroe employers

Monroe County employers include manufacturers, utilities, retailers and many small businesses. If you run a small company, offering group health, dental, vision, life or disability coverage can help you keep good employees. Kris can compare options and explain them to your team. Even a small team may have options. She can also review your current plan.

Employees approaching 65 often have questions about Medicare and group coverage. With 20 or more employees, the group plan is usually primary. Kris can help each person understand their timing. See the employee benefits page for more. Leaving employer coverage starts an eight-month Special Enrollment Period for Part B. Missing it may mean a penalty.
