Medicare.gov Resources

This page gathers official government links for common Medicare tasks: signing up for Parts A and B, applying for Medicaid, looking up prescription coverage and checking eligibility for the Low-Income Subsidy, also called Extra Help. Kryder Cares is not a government agency. Kris Kryder can walk you through any of these steps.

Official Medicare Resources

Use the links below to go straight to official government websites. Each one opens in a new tab.

  • Medicare: Sign up for Medicare Part A and B
  • Medicaid: Application to apply for Medicaid
  • Prescriptions: Find prescriptions online
  • Low-Income Subsidy: Eligibility for the Low-Income Subsidy

Signing up for Parts A and B is done through Social Security at ssa.gov or 1-800-772-1213. Have your Social Security number and any employer coverage dates ready. If you are already receiving Social Security benefits, you may be enrolled automatically.

Medicaid and Extra Help can lower your costs if your income and assets are limited. People with both Medicare and Medicaid may qualify for a Dual Special Needs Plan. Prescription lookups let you compare drug plans, but Kris can do that comparison for you with the Rx drug lookup form.

Local help is also available. In Ohio, you can apply for Medicaid and Medicare Savings Programs through the Ohio Department of Medicaid or your county Job and Family Services office. In Toledo, the Area Office on Aging of Northwestern Ohio offers services for older adults, and Kris meets clients at the Kryder Cares office in Perrysburg.

We do not offer every plan available in your area. Currently, we represent 14 organizations which offer 119 products in your area. Any information we provide is limited to those plans we do offer in your area. Please contact Medicare.gov or 1-800-MEDICARE to get information on all of your options. This is a proprietary website and is not associated, endorsed or authorized by the Social Security Administration, the Department of Health and Human Services or the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services. This site contains decision-support content and information about Medicare, services related to Medicare and services for people with Medicare. FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How do I sign up for Medicare Part A and Part B?

You sign up through Social Security, online at ssa.gov, by calling 1-800-772-1213, or at a local Social Security office. If you already get Social Security benefits when you turn 65, you are usually enrolled automatically. Kris can help you decide when to enroll in Part B, especially if you still have employer coverage.

What is the Low-Income Subsidy (Extra Help)?

Extra Help, also called the Low-Income Subsidy, is a Medicare program that helps people with limited income and resources pay Part D premiums, deductibles and copays. You can apply through Social Security. If you qualify, you may also get Special Enrollment Periods to change drug plans. Kris can help you look at plans afterward.

Can I have both Medicare and Medicaid?

Yes. People who qualify for both are called dual eligible. Medicaid may help pay Medicare premiums and cost sharing, depending on your level of eligibility. Dual eligible people may also qualify for a D-SNP, a Medicare Advantage plan designed for people with both Medicare and Medicaid. Kris can explain your options.

Is Kryder Cares part of Medicare or the government?

No. Kryder Cares is a private, independent insurance agency. It is not associated with, endorsed or authorized by the Social Security Administration, the Department of Health and Human Services or the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. For official Medicare information, visit medicare.gov or call 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227).

How do I report suspected Medicare fraud?

Call 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227) or contact the HHS Office of Inspector General at oig.hhs.gov. Watch for charges on your Medicare Summary Notice for services you never received, and be wary of anyone who calls unexpectedly asking for your Medicare number. Keep your statements and compare them with your own records. If a bill or notice looks wrong, Kris can help you read it.

Should I use Medicare.gov’s plan finder or talk with an agent?

You can do either, or both. The plan finder on medicare.gov lets you compare drug and Medicare Advantage plans yourself. Kris can run a similar comparison, explain the differences in plain English, check your doctors, and help with enrollment. Her consultations are no-cost and no-obligation. Start with the request a quote form.
